Frequently Asked Questions - Edible Prints
I'd like to order a bespoke edible print, where do I send my images?
Please send your files to us through our website form - click here.
What size edible prints can you print do?
We sell edible prints in a few different formats -
- A5, A4 and A3 Icing Sheets,
- A4 and A3 Wafer Paper (often called Rice Paper) and
- 5cm Pre-cut Cupcake Toppers
- 3cm Pre-cut Mini Cupcake/ Lollipop Toppers
To help you choose which sheet you need, we've summarised each option below:
- A5 Icing Sheets: made from a flexible thin icing, our A5 sheets have a maximum print area of 13.5cm x 20.9cm (5.25" x 8") - perfect for smaller cake toppers, and bespoke images.
- A4 Icing Sheets made from a flexible thin icing, these sheets are a little shorter than an A4 sheet of paper and the maximum print area is 28cm x 20cm (just under 11" x 8")- they're great for bigger cake projects, creating your own cake wrap to go around the side of a cake and for creating bespoke sheets with your own designs.
- A3 Icing Sheets: made from a flexible thin icing, these sheets are a little shorter than an A3 sheet of paper with a print area of 40cm x 28cm (just under 16" x 11.5") - they're the perfect size to fit on the top of a 'Costco' sheet cake and we can tailor your design to suit your occasion for the perfect easy celebration cake.
- A4 Wafer Paper: this is a cheaper, economy print option and has a slightly larger print area than the Icing Sheets becasue they do not require a backing sheet - 29cm x 21cm. Wafer Paper sheets are thinner than icing sheets and semi-transparent - they can be used to create cake or cupcake toppers and can be cut to size as you wish.
- Pre-Cut Cupcake Toppers: Made from the same flexible material as our Icing Sheets, these high quality toppers are pre-cut into 5cm circles and we can print any images you wish onto them. There are 15 toppers per sheet and you can have up to 15 different images on each sheet.
- Pre-Cut Mini Cupcake Toppers: Made from the same flexible material as our Icing Sheets, these high quality toppers are pre-cut into 3cm circles and we can print any images you wish onto them. There are 48 toppers per sheet and you can have up to 6 different images on each sheet.
If you are sending us a pre-formatted pdf, we advise you allow at least a 1.5cm margin at the top of your sheet and a 1 cm margin on the other three sides to allow for the print feed (any images in this area may not be printed otherwise). This means your print will most likely have a small white border all the way around - we cannot guarantee edge to edge printing.
How many images can I have printed on my sheet?
The most common email we get is: "Can you print a picture of my dog / my boyfriend's aunt / four different pictures of ponies / a wine label and four chocolate wrappers.... etc...etc... the answer is always YES. Absolutely anything can printed onto your edible Icing Sheet. You do not need to send an email to ask if we can print it, because the answer is most likely yes.
Yes, you can have as many images as you can fit on! If you are wanting to print a lot of images and / or text, it's easiest if you can format them onto an A4 PDF to email to us to ensure the formatting stays the same when it's printed.

How many sheets do I need for a 6" 8" etc.. cake?
Icing Sheets have so many uses! A super popular way of using them at the moment is to wrap them around the sides of a cake, hence we sometimes refer to them as 'Cake Wraps'
If you're planning on wrapping your icing sheet around the sides of the cake, we have a handy sheet to try and help you decide how many sheets you need to order here.
What can I use an edible print for?
Edible prints can be used in SO many different ways! You can use them:
- As a wrap around the side of a cake (One A4 sheet cut in half lengthways is usually enough to cover the circumference of a 6-8" cake)
- To print large toppers for the top of your cakes (Just let us know the size and shape and we can format your picture to the right size (up to 11" x 16")
- To create shaped toppers for cookies and cupcakes (great if you want different shaped toppers to the usual circles!)
- To make a decopatch effect by overlapping pieces of print.
- To create wafer paper flowers
- Stick them onto some flowerpaste to create hard 'stand-up' toppers for your cakes.
Can I cut the edible print?
Yes of course! All edible print products can be cut using clean scissors.
Icing Sheets are attached to a plastic backing sheet and you can cut the sheet to size using scissors whilst it is still attached to the backing sheet, or if you're using a cutter, remove the icing from the backing sheet and then attach it to a piece of rolled out sugarpaste before cutting, this will give you a nice clean cut using cookie or sugarpaste cutters.
Wafer Paper can bee cut directly with a clean pair of scissors - it is a little more fragile than the Icing Sheets so you'll need to be careful.
You can cut all edible prints using metal paper punches too :)
What format should I send my images in?
Depending on the sheet you have ordered, different files are preferred:
If you've ordered an A5, A4 or A3 Icing Sheet, or an A4 Wafer Sheet, you'll get your prints quicker if you can send them preformatted on an A4 PDF. You are welcome to send individual JPEG images, but you'll also need to include sizing requirements and this may need double-checking and may take longer to format and print.
If you've ordered Cupcake Toppers, please send us individual JPEG images for each topper - we can't work from a PDF for these as it condenses the images to be one large image and will significantly affect the print quality of your toppers.
If you've ordered an Edible Film Strip, please send us indivdual images so that we can crop and resize them to fit our template. A PDF will not work for this style of print.
Please do NOT send a Microsoft Word document - we work on a Mac and it cannot convert fonts and spacing so you will be asked to send as a PDF which will delay your order.
If you send screenshots from your phone then your order may be delayed as a lot more formatting has to be done in order to use your image - please try to save your files and send them as attachments rather than screenshots.
Please try to attach your images to one email - sending 42 emails with one image on each email will significantly delay your order whilst we try to match up all of your order.
Can you send me a proof of my edible print?
Yes of course! We will only send a proof once you've placed your order (please let us know you want one as they're not sent as standard) - please note, this may mean your order takes longer to process as we only work on proofs once a day - if you're able to format it yourself, you'll receive your icing sheet much more quickly :)
Please note: if you send us a preformatted PDF, your print will be exactly the same as the file you have sent us, so you will not need a proof :)
Can you alter my images for me?
We can resize images to any size and add text / borders to images - please do not ask us to remove backgrounds or photoshop people etc.. this is not possible and you'll need to do this before sending us your image.
I need a logo in a different colour, can you do this?
If you can't find it on google, then neither can we! I'm afraid our price does not include any photoshopping or graphic design work - we keep our prices low on the basis that you send us the images that you would like printing.
How do you use Icing Sheets?
Icing Sheets are supplied on a plastic backing sheet. To use the sheets, gently peel the icing from the backing sheet. We recommend placing your icing sheet onto a sugarpaste covered cake for the best results. You can place your icing sheet straight onto the cake - use clean brush to brush water onto the sugarpaste and gently press the icing sheet into place.
If you want to make individual toppers to place on cupcakes or cookies, roll out a piece of sugarpaste and gently brush the surface with water, gently press the icing sheet in place, then use your preferred cutter to cut the shapes you desire.
How long will the icing sheet last?
Icing Sheets are all printed on demand and will last at least 6 months if stored correctly. Over time, you may find the colour deepens and the sheets become slightly firmer.
How should I store my Icing Sheet?
Your Icing Sheet will be posted to you in a sealed bag and envelope, we recommend keeping your sheet in the bag and envelope in a cool dark place until you wish to use it. Exposure to heat and light may affect the quality of your print.
Do not allow your print to get wet - the image is printed onto the surface of the icing and will smudge if it gets wet.
How much is postage?
We have a flat tracked postage rate of £3.50 for every order - please read our full postage information here.
Where do you ship to?
We only post orders within the UK & Northern Ireland. Food laws are different in every country and we can only work to supply and meet the laws of the UK market. If you place an order for an address outside the UK and just put 'UK' at the end, it still won't be posted to you, so please don't waste our time and yours :)
When will I receive my order?
We post orders out on MONDAYS, TUESDAYS, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY AND FRIDAYS.
We do not post on weekends or bank holidays.
All orders are posted 1st Class with proof of postage.
During busy periods, such as after bank holiday weekends, the Royal Mail may take a little longer to deliver your items. For this reason, we do not guarantee delivery times and dates with the 1st Class service. We ask you to allow 3-5 working days from the day of your dispatch for your item to arrive. If you have waited more than one week for your item, please contact us.
Please read our T&C's carefully before placing your order. Click here for further postage information.
I need my item urgently...
If you need your order urgently, we offer the Royal Mail Special Delivery Service - please select it on checkout. This service guarantees your order to arrive the next working day. This does not affect our dispatch days so may not always arrive the day after you order - please read our full postage information here for more details.
Can you print edge-to-edge?
No - we advise you to allow for a 1cm gap around the edge of your sheets - this allows for the print feed of the printers and also any small breakages that may occur during transit. The sheets are extremely fragile and allowing this margin means you are more likely to have a perfect image printed :)
